Guerlain adds a new bloom to the Millésime line, following incarnations dedicated to vanilla, tonka bean, iris, and jasmine. This year’s release, created by Delphine Jelk, Creative Director of Perfumery and the house’s in-house perfumer, centers the rose as the absolute lead in a composition built around three sequential expressions of the flower, each with its own personality. The opening unveils rose water, bergamot, and almond to deliver a crystalline, luminous freshness that is unusually radiant for Shalimar. In the heart, a duet of exquisite roses emerges: Grasse Centifolia rose absolute, cultivated organically and renowned for its honeyed notes, mingles with Damask rose essence, which leans toward a fruitier, almond-like character, resulting in a petals-confit richness of remarkable complexity. Incense, subtly present in the original, is amplified here to impart warmth and depth, balancing the floral luminosity with a deep sensuality. The base—opopanax, vanilla tincture, patchouli, and incense—grounds the scent in Guerlain’s enduring heritage.
